Sun Don’t Go! Ver.2
この度、SH GALLERY では、韓国出身の作家・ABANG(アバン)の日本初個展を開催いたします。
ニューヨーク・タイムズ誌、VALENTINO や ASICS とのコラボレーションでも注目を集めた ABANG は、鮮やかな色彩と自由な発想で、既成概念に挑む作品を発表しています。
“旅行は一日たりとも予想通りに進むことなく、
毎回思いがけない方向へと流れていきました。
そのたびに新鮮な気持ちを味わい、同じ風景も新たに感じられたのです。
偶然だけで繋がっていた長い旅の終わりには、
やはり思いもしなかった大きな感情が残り、
日常に戻った私はこれまで経験したことのないような恋しさに悩まされました。
ソウルのあちこちで、好きなあの街に似た風景を見つけました。
下り坂で街路樹の影を楽しみながら自転車に乗るとき、
漢江から対岸の街の灯りを見るとき、
坂の多い街の路地を息を切らしながら登るとき、
小さくて少し古びたホテルの前を通るとき、
傘もささずに雨にずぶ濡れになるとき、
地下鉄やバスのアナウンスが入った音楽を聴くとき、
街中で柔軟剤の香りに出会ったとき、
あるいは食べ物のもちもちとした食感などからも、あの街を思い出しました。
そんな共通点を見つけるたびに、まるで最近誰かと別れたかのような切なさと
どうしようもない悲しみに襲われ、「これは恋なのだ」と思ったのです。
展示とは、私の一連の時間と感情の流れを、
できるだけ平らに、簡潔に圧縮し、包装せずに
そのまま差し出すプレゼントのようなものです。
今回の展示は、好きな街で出会った贈り物のような瞬間を、
自由な線と彩色で描いたドローイングを中心に展開しました。
作品の多くは手のひらサイズのドローイングブックから始まり、
下描きもせずに描いたため、その筆致は、
行き先も決めずに旅したあの頃の私自身を表しています。
夕暮れ時、「今日が終わらなければいいのに」と願いながら小さくつぶやいた
「Sun, don’t go!」
という声と、愛する街で過ごしたあの時間を、ぜひ共有したいと思います。”
Not a single day of the trip went as expected.
With each unexpected turns, I encountered a fresh feeling and the familiar scenery unfolded anewAt the end of a long journey connected only by chance, I was still left with a great deal of unexpected emotions, and when I returned to my daily life, I was plagued by a kind of longing that I had never experienced before.Here and there in Seoul, I found a glimpse of my favorite city.When I rode my bicycle downhill enjoying the shadows of the trees,
when I looked at the lights of the city on the other side of the Han River,
when I breathlessly climbed up an alley in a hilly city,
when I passed by a small and slightly old hotel,
when I got soaked in the rain without an umbrella,
when I listened to music with subway and bus announcements,
when I smelled the scent of fabric softener in the city,
when I encounter the scent of fabric softener, or the sticky texture of food,
I am reminded of that city.With each glimpse and reminders, I was struck by a sense of sadness and helpless grief, as if I had recently broken up with someone, and I thought, “This is love.”An exhibition is like my series of time and emotions, flattened and compressed as much as possible and presented, still unwrapped.This exhibition is centered around drawings of gift-like moments I encountered in my favorite city, drawn with free-flowing lines and colors. Many of the works began as palm-sized drawing books and were drawn without preliminary sketches, so the brushstrokes represent myself at the time of travel, equally free-flowing without deciding where to go.I would like to share the time I spent in my beloved city, where I wished the day would never end. At dusk, I let out a small murmur, “Sun, don’t go!”
< 여행은 하루도 빠짐없이 예상을 빗나간 방향으로 흘러갔고 그때마다 새로운 기분을 느끼고 같은 장면이 새롭게 다가왔다. 오로지 우연으로만 이어진 긴 여행의 끝에는 역시 예상치 못한 커다란 감정이 남았고, 일상으로 돌아온 나는 전례없는 상사병을 앓았다.
서울 곳곳에서 좋아하는 도시와 닮은 점을 찾아냈다. 어느 내리막에서 가로수 그늘을 만끽하며 자전거 탈 때, 한강에서 건너편 동네의 불빛을 볼 때, 언덕진 동네의 골목을 숨 차도록 올라갈 때, 작고 촌스러운 호텔을 지나칠 때, 우산 없이 비를 흠뻑 맞을 때, 지하철이나 버스 안내방송이 담긴 음악을 들을 때, 거리에서 섬유유연제 냄새를 맡았을 때나 음식의 쫄깃함 같은 걸로도 좋아하는 도시를 느꼈다. 비슷한 흔적을 찾을 때마다 최근 이별한 것처럼 슬프고 힘들어 어찌할 바를 몰랐기 때문에, 이건 사랑이다.
전시란 나의 일련의 시간과 감정을 가장 납작하고 간결하게 압축하여, 포장 없이 풀어놓은 선물 같은 것이다. 이번 전시는 좋아하는 도시에서 발견한 선물 같은 장면을 자유로운 선과 채색으로 채운 드로잉을 중심으로 확장하였다. 대부분의 작품이 손바닥 만한 드로잉북에서 출발하였고 스케치 없이 그렸기 때문에 터치는 발길 닿는대로 여행했던 그때의 나를 대변한다. 해질녘, 오늘이 끝나지 않기를 바라며 “Sun, don’t go!“라고 외치던 나지막한 목소리와 사랑하는 도시에서의 시간을 공유하고 싶다. >
