Born in Fukuoka in 1982.
After graduating from a design school, he built a career as a designer and illustrator.
In 2015, he started posting original illustrations on Instagram and began his artist activities in full force.
In 2019, Isayama held solo exhibitions in Harajuku, Tokyo and Umeda, Osaka, and enter the world of contemporary art from “ART FAIR ASIA FUKUOKA 2021” in 2021.
isayamax’s work is grounded in the counterculture of the 90s and the zeitgeist and culture of the 70s.
The “kawaii culture” that originated in manga and character culture of the 70s, which is closely related to bijin-ga and illustration, has continued through the Shibuya gyaru and Harajuku décora of the 90s to the SNS and diverse pop culture of the present day.
isayamax has reconstructed the context of “domestic kawaii culture” in its own unique way, and sublimated it into the modern age by making full use of illustration techniques. The visual expression that mixes nostalgia and novelty creates empathy that transcends generations and national borders.
Hana Kwon (クォン・ハナ)
1990年、韓国生まれ。
米国のアート・センター・カレッジ・オブ・デザインを卒業後、
クォン・ハナの作品は、記憶と感情の可視化を通じて、
言葉では表現しにくい率直な感情や内面の葛藤を捉え、
Born in 1990 in South Korea.
After graduating from Art Center College of Design, she began her career as an artist by expressing candid emotions and memories.
Hana Kwon’s works explore the theme of how fleeting moments can become eternal through the visualization of memory and emotion.
She captures candid emotions and inner conflicts that are difficult to express in words, and confronts herself anew through “Nana,” the other self that appears in her works. This act of creation is a journey to find her own stability and order, and for her, painting is a process of inner conditioning and self-exploration.
Backside Works.
Backside works.は、
Backside works.は、作品を見る観客を主人公と思い、
当然のように、
Backside works. is a contemporary artist of mixed subculture art based on the concept of “heroine”.
Faceless and shrouded in mystery, Backside works. thinks of their work as the “heroine” and its viewer the “protagonist”, encouraging the viewer to create their own story with the pieces.
As a longtime admirer of Japanese otaku and street culture since childhood, Backside works. draws the heroines as paintings, silkscreen, pen drawings, and spray paint, incorporating elements of Japanese animation, manga, and graffiti art
ABOUT THE EXHIBITION
SH GALLERY is pleased to present RE:WEAR / RE:WOR(L)D. This exhibition will introduce a new form of expression combining contemporary art and vintage clothing.
The works are created by four artists with rich personalities. The encounter between each artist’s art and vintage clothing will create a new story through the combination of memories, emotions, and individuality.
The energy of HYKRX’s graffiti, the sparkling characters of isayamax, the imaginary world of Hana Kwon’s “Nana,” and the heroines of Backside works.—Each worldview overlaps with vintage clothing.
Their works are carefully silk-screened on a canvas of vintage T-shirts and reborn with new life, each piece unique.
Vintages clothing are artworks of their own right, as physical representation of the time and stories of its past owner and wearer. When layered with art, the pieces transforms beyond fashion, gaining its own voice. At the same time, the clothing becomes a device that allows art to be worn.
The piece of clothing that you put your sleeve on, or the painting in front of you, may overlap with someone’s memory or your own story.
We look forward to seeing you at the exhibition.
